Unlike, perhaps, some of the readers of this article, I actively support full LGBTQ equality, and I do not believe that the only province of sexuality should be the marital relationship. But you, and I, and everyone, universally agree that some classes of sexual behavior are simply acceptable, like child molestation, or sexual assault. And pastors dating their parishioners—although seemingly more benign at first—actually fits into that category. When you belong to a church, the ministers consult each other about what’s going on in your life—and this can create conflicts of interest if you’re dating one of them In my case, when I grew increasingly frazzled by my relationship with my pastor, I couldn’t go to one of the other ministers and talk about it. This would be like dating your manager, and then going to the CEO of the company for relationship advice.
You are not automatically the one who has to escort them in and pour their drink. If you ain’t prayed all this time it is irrelevant now! You are not the first lady just because you are dating. Some people who are serious about ministry have a name and reputation to uphold first and they don’t know when you all are going to break up!
It would look crazy as a man or woman of God acknowledging somebody new every time they preached! The man or woman of God is not acting funny with you because they don’t sit in church with their arm around you or snuggled up in your arms while you all are dating.
It’s called knowing protocol and the posture of ministry. Do not start arguments before the man of God gets ready to minister.
How can you hear God for them if you always giving a word or trying to oil them down anyway? Understand that it is his calling to minister to both men and women alike.
Instead of standing there staring, when service is over, go to the car, and patiently wait for him to finish handling his business with the saints. If the armour-bearer or the pastor has already prayed for his/her strength to be restored after the message, don’t get your hips up trying to be deep, down there laying hands on their feet, and praying loud because you think you got to be the most effective one to cover. Stop collecting the yellow envelope after service with his love offering in it. Don’t marry a man/woman of God because of ministry and you feel as though they are anointed.
